LIGHTHOUSE LIB
Enriching literacy, expanding horizons
About the Lighthouse Library
Lighthouse Library is a web-based electronic library, providing a variety of both English and Indonesian e-books, along with interactive and communicative features which ultimately harness the benefits of a digital environment. Lighthouse Library does not charge fees or costs to its users. The workforce of Indonesia has been gradually adapting to technological advances over the recent years. However, there hasn’t been much digitalisation of education ecosystems in the country, especially for early education. Furthermore, English is seldom used by Indonesian students, and fundamentals of this language is taught only as a mandatory course at public middle schools. Fortunately, internet access is widespread across Indonesia, as the largest archipelago by width, population, and economy. With this, Lighthouse Library supplements school curriculums through connecting a digital learning experience to English Literature, for young learners.
How We Make a Difference
Lighthouse Library has so far been well accepted by the community. Although its presence is still relatively new, Lighthouse Library has built collaboration and partnered with a total of 10 institutions, spread across 4 different provinces (states) in Indonesia. Through this, we have reached approximately 1000 young students who come from disprivileged backgrounds, including ones from low-income families, orphanages, as well as ones without legal status to gain free public education.
About the Founder
Hi there…

I am Farrell Wenardy, a mathematics enthusiast striving for an expertise in machine-learning. I am keen to make positive impacts to communities I belong to, by innovating things beyond my typical routines as a student. Having been enrolled in Indonesian International Schools, I was highly exposed to English as a primary language. I heard and spoke a lot more English words, so much that a parallel of language was drawn even between me and a lot of similar-aged children whom I came across. I asked myself, “Before this division continues to grow, what could I do?“. This question motivated me to create the Lighthouse Library, through the programming skills I’ve acquired over the years. Given its current progress, I’m optimistic that it will support the Indonesian community positively. I am satisfied to see that my technological skills can also benefit others in their own learning of technology.
